SEP cancels dialogue with CNTE; teachers evaluate actions

The SEP suspends the dialogue with the CNTE; The dissident teachers are considering intensifying their protests.

The Ministry of Public Education (SEP) suspended this Friday the negotiation table that it had scheduled with Section 9 of the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE), headed by Pedro Hernández. The meeting was scheduled in the midst of the national strike maintained by dissident teachers.

No official explanation

Section 9 reported that the meeting was canceled by the federal agency without the reasons being made known to date. Given the suspension, the union called on its members and supporters to gather on Paseo de la Reforma to define the next steps of the movement.

The demands of the teaching profession

The meeting was part of a series of negotiations that have failed to resolve the main demands of the CNTE. Their requests include the repeal of the ISSSTE Law of 2007, the return to the solidarity pension system and the elimination of individual accounts.

The teachers also demand the disappearance of the System Unit for the Career of Teachers (USICAMM), as well as salary and labor improvements. Problems such as basifications and homologation of benefits remain unaddressed.

Reactions from the teaching profession

Pedro Hernández indicated that the CNTE will analyze new actions and did not rule out continuing with the national strike. The leader stated that he is waiting for a new communication from the head of the SEP, Mario Delgado, to establish another date for dialogue with the authorities.

The dissident teachers maintain their firm position as long as there is no progress in their demands. The mobilization in Paseo de la Reforma will define the next steps of the strike that already affects schools in several entities.

Teachers protest in BCS and Chiapas for pensions and health

Teachers from various entities demand changes to the ISSSTE; Blockades affect roads in La Paz and Chiapas.

In Baja California Sur

Teachers from Section 3 of the SNTE carried out intermittent blockades on two highway accesses in La Paz. The protests were concentrated in the Cola de Ballena area, towards the International Airport, and in the Calafia filter, towards the south of the state. Teachers allowed vehicles to pass through for periods and then resumed closures.

The mobilization seeks to pressure for changes to the pension system and improvements in ISSSTE medical services. Local authorities are monitoring the situation to avoid further road complications.

In Chiapas

Members of the CNTE took over the toll booth on the Tuxtla Gutiérrez-San Cristóbal de las Casas highway. This action is added to their work stoppage, which has now been in its 12th day. Chiapas teachers also maintain blockades at Pemex facilities in Tuxtla Gutiérrez.

They demand the repeal of educational reforms and modifications to the ISSSTE Law, in addition to better working conditions and social security. The protests are part of a national day called by the teachers.
