A gesture that speaks louder than words
Morena’s senators have made a decision that goes beyond a simple press release. They are going to donate money from their own pockets to Cuba. It is voluntary, there are no fixed amounts. Everyone gives what they can or what they feel.
But here is the detail that you cannot ignore: this is a direct response to the call of former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador. The move is not only humanitarian, it is pure politics.
And how much are they going to give?
Gerardo Fernández Noroña was clear: he will donate a full month of his salary. But he immediately put his finger on the sore spot. He said what everyone thinks but few say out loud:
“Everyone is going to decide the amount… I am of the idea that we also have to send them oil, which is what they need, what is needed.”
There you have it. A tacit recognition that a check, no matter how well-intentioned, does not fill tanks or power generators.
Félix Salgado Macedonio, for his part, spoke from another angle. He said he will contribute part of his savings “with a lot of heart,” calling Cuba a “sister Republic.” His phrase summarizes the spirit of the act: “Amos is repaid with love.”
It is a powerful rhetorical wink. It turns an economic transaction into an almost family act.
The revealing thing comes at the end. The legislators listed what Cuba really needs: fuel, diesel, food, clothing. The cash donation is only part of the message.
The other part is a public reminder of the island’s urgent material shortcomings. It is solidarity with a double edge: immediate help and veiled diplomatic pressure.
A genuine act of brotherhood? A strategic move on the geopolitical board? In this political theater, it is probably both at once.
