Threats without answers
The local PRI representative in Sinaloa, Paola Gárate, accused the federal government of ignoring her request for protection. A week ago, a funeral wreath appeared on the door of his house. She interpreted it as a direct threat due to her critical stance towards insecurity in the state.
In an interview in the Senate, Gárate revealed that months before he had already requested support from the federal security cabinet due to previous threats. So far, it has not received protection nor has a risk analysis been carried out.
The legislator mentioned previous attacks: an attempted robbery of her truck under threats, a gunpoint and other events linked to officials identified by US authorities. “If that doesn’t imply a risk, I don’t know what else is needed,” he declared.

Gárate affirmed that the message of the funeral wreath not only threatens her, but also all those who criticize the government and the security crisis in Sinaloa. Although he admits to being afraid for his life, he assured that he will continue to report the problems.
“In Sinaloa you don’t live, you survive,” he said. He insisted that the authorities must address the situation and protect those who face risks due to their public work.
