A movie ending puts Rahm at the forefront
Jon Rahm brought out the heavy artillery when it was needed most. With birdies in three of his last four holes, he scored a 67 (-4) to take command of the LIV Golf México. He’s one shot ahead.
His direct rival is, precisely, his teammate. Tyrrell Hatton also shot low with a 66. Tomorrow they will face each other in a duel that promises sparks.
“I guess I’ve shown in the past that I can play well on this course,” Hatton said. “I missed the 18th hole in that WGC event, which was disappointing, but hopefully luck will be on my side tomorrow.”
There is history here for both of us.
For Rahm, Chapultepec brings back memories of 2017, when he chased Dustin Johnson to the end. For Hatton, this course was the scene of a missed opportunity against Phil Mickelson in 2018.
Tomorrow is not just for the tournament. It’s about closing pending chapters.
Branden Grace and Tom McKibbin are just one stroke further back. This is far from decided. Rahm is looking for his second win of the year, but he knows that with Hatton breathing down his neck, no blow can be given away.
Mental discipline will be the key. Whoever best handles the ghosts of the past and the pressure of the present will take the crown.
