Conclusive results in Coahuila
The Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) obtained a solid victory in the elections to renew the Congress of Coahuila. He won the 16 electoral districts with 684,515 votes, 55.01% of the total. Thus, it doubled the 326,012 votes of the Morena-Party of Labor coalition, which reached 26.20%.
This performance is not coincidental. On June 4, 2023, PRI member Manolo Jiménez Salinas won the governorship with 56.94% of the votes (741,731 votes). The electoral base of the tricolor in the entity remains firm.
At the national level, the most relevant precedent dates back to June 7, 2015. During Enrique Peña Nieto’s six-year term, the PRI competed for 300 districts. In alliance with the Green Party, it obtained 185 districts, consolidating itself as the main legislative force. The PAN came second with 55; the PRD, third with 34. Morena, in its beginnings, achieved 14 districts, marking the start of its expansion.
The victory of the PRI in Coahuila not only confirms its local leadership, but also opens questions about the future of coalitions and electoral competition in the country.
