The PRI looks at Iran and sees a lesson for Mexico
Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas, the national head of the PRI, sent a direct message. He said that Mexico should take note of the recent events in Iran. Its central point: the defense of democracy cannot be ambiguous in the face of authoritarian regimes.
And what is happening in Iran according to the PRI?
In a public display, Moreno Cárdenas detailed his position. He maintained that for years “serious human rights violations, political persecution and institutionalized repression” have been documented in that country. Its conclusion is clear: the international community cannot sit idly by.
“the international community cannot remain indifferent to these types of governments”
But here comes the real blow, the one that points towards home.
The veiled (or not so veiled) criticism of Morena
The opposition leader took the opportunity to throw a dart at the current government. He criticized that the National Palace constantly questions the United States. However, he noted with surgical irony, there is a deafening silence in the face of what he describes as “massacres and abuses” committed by the Iranian authorities against his people.
It is the classic political move: using an international conflict to mark a domestic contradiction. Coherence in foreign policy? According to the PRI, there appears to be a double standard.
The question that remains is whether this warning seeks geopolitical positioning or is simply another round in the local partisan fight. History often repeats itself, and declarations of principles against distant regimes always have a closer recipient.
