The figure that does matter: 60 tons
The Security Cabinet announced this Monday the seizure of approximately two tons of cocaine in waters off Acapulco. The operation, carried out with aircraft and patrols, intercepted a motor ship before it hit the coast.
Omar García Harfuch, Secretary of Federal Security, was direct when giving the context: with this coup, the current administration adds more than 60 tons of the alkaloid seized in Mexican seas. “These actions represent a million-dollar blow to crime,” he published.
“These actions represent a million-dollar blow to crime and protect the safety of Mexican families”
Four blows in weeks: strategy or coincidence?
This is the fourth relevant seizure in just a few weeks. In mid-February there were 188 packages off Clarión Island. Then, half a ton in Oaxaca and four more in Colima. The rhythm is striking.
The international reaction was immediate. The American ambassador, Ronald Johnson, celebrated the operation and pointed directly to the political factor.
“They demonstrate what we can achieve when we work together… Under the leadership of Donald Trump and President Claudia Sheinbaum, we are dismantling networks”
Officials insist this is part of an ongoing effort. Maritime surveillance, institutional coordination. The speech is familiar. The question that floats, like those packages at sea, is another: who is financing the ships to move 60 tons?
