A New Year Dyed with Blood: Violence Unleashes its Fury in Sinaloa
Like a gloomy omen that dims the dawn of the year, criminal violence once again tore the social fabric of Sinaloa. In a display of brutality that froze the blood, six lives were taken in a single day, five of them in different corners of the capital, Culiacán, in a sequence of events that painted the city with the color of tragedy. The entire community was left in collective mourning, wondering when this endless cycle of pain will end.
Among the victims, the name of Mailett Yohana “N” stands out, a woman of just 32 years old, a resident of the Felipe Ángeles neighborhood. Her fate was treacherously sealed when, presumably upon arriving at her home on Rosendo Rodríguez Street, she was shot by hitmen who, mounted on a motorcycle, carried out the attack and fled cowardly into the darkness, leaving behind a silence broken only by the echo of the gunshots.
Details of a Tragic Day in Culiacán and Mazatlán
The Culiacancito highway, in the community of Bacurimi, became the scene of a massacre. Four men traveling in a white Frontier van were ambushed and shot with automatic firearms by the occupants of another vehicle. The fury of the projectiles was so lethal that one of the occupants died instantly inside the unit, while another of the three wounded, rushed to a hospital, succumbed to his injuries hours later. Their identities remain, for now, in the anonymity of death.
Meanwhile, in the Chapultepec residential area, mystery and horror were intertwined. Moisés “N”, 52 years old, reported missing only on January 2, was found dead on a street, with multiple gunshot wounds. Neighbors alarmed by the detonations raised the alarm, and upon arrival, elements of the Mexican Army could only see the cold result of the barbarity: a body lying on the pavement.
The wave of homicides did not stop there. On Agricultores Boulevard, in the Ayuntamiento 85 neighborhood, a young man identified as Samuel “N” was killed by unknown individuals who, it is presumed, attacked from a vehicle. Finally, the sixth victim of this fateful day was found on a street in the Third Extension of Urías, in the port city of Mazatlán. Unidentified, his body lay as a tragic testament to the violence that extends beyond the capital.
This set of violent events are not isolated events; They are the manifestation of a public safety crisis that requires urgent attention. Each life lost is an entire universe destroyed, a family destroyed, and a community that lives under the yoke of fear. Insecurity and the actions of criminal groups continue to challenge the state, leaving a trail of mourning and impunity that seems to have no end.
