The YouTuber who made half of Mexico angry (and then left them without arguments)
Ah, MrBeast, the man who could solve world hunger with a single video but prefers to hide chocolates in pyramids. The most generous (and controversial) YouTuber on the planet decided today, from his throne of likes and retweets, to respond to the controversy that his latest video unleashed in the archaeological zones of Mexico. The reason? Apparently, filming among ancient ruins with permits, vigilant archaeologists and government approval was not enough to prevent some officials from becoming more dramatic than a 9 o’clock soap opera.
“They’re not suing us, but thanks for asking (lol)”
In a thread on Wow, what a disappointment for those who already imagined an epic trial between YouTubers and the INAH. But no, everything was filmed with permissions, supervision and even with the blessing of the governor of Campeche, Layda Sansores, who came out to defend him as if he were her favorite son. And the Ministry of Culture? Well, they seem to be in a separate reality show.
As if that were not enough, MrBeast dropped the bomb: not only did he finance water projects in the state (something that the government had already announced as if it were a Nobel Prize), but he is also working with the INAH on a fund to support Mexican archaeology. Wow, almost as if he wanted to make up for the mortal sin of… making a viral video? Promote Mayan culture? Or do Feastables chocolates have mystical powers?
The dinner scene that no one asked for (but everyone saw)
And here comes the best: the controversial Feastables scene, the one where MrBeast makes a joke about his chocolates. Where was it recorded? No, it wasn’t in the middle of Chichén Itzá (although that would have been epic), but in a place as far from the temples as your grandmother’s kitchen. But of course, on the internet everything is exaggerated more than a Cute Kittens meme.
The ironic thing is that, while some officials were tearing their clothes, the video had already accumulated 56 million views in four days. Negative advertising? More like free publicity for Mexico, but hey, who needs tourism when you can have a scandal?
In the end, MrBeast closed with a message that mixes frustration and sarcasm: “It’s sad to see how all this is distorted.” And we add: sadder than the plot of Matrix Resurrections? Probably not, but almost.
