La casa del Tri is reborn with a view to 2026
History gives us a clear clue. Mexico’s best performances in World Cups came as hosts. In 1970 and 1986, quarterfinals. Now, with the shared headquarters in 2026, the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) does not want to leave anything to chance.
Their big move: an investment of 400 million pesos to completely remodel the High Performance Center (CAR). The place where El Tri will prepare his assault on glory.
“This investment reflects our responsibility for the 2026 World Cup. We have built a facility that will provide the national team with the best possible conditions,” said Mikel Arriola, president of the FMF.
The message is clear. It’s not just a facelift. It is a commitment to the future and a legacy.
“It is not just about 2026, but about building a foundation that will impact the development of our national teams in the coming years,” Arriola added.
A radical change from the foundations
What was once a modest gym is now a mass of 6,000 square meters. Everything is new, except two machines. Inside there are top-level medical areas, spacious locker rooms and spaces dedicated to sports intelligence and physical recovery.
Capacity skyrocketed. 20 rooms for the over 45 team, plus an exclusive block with 29 rooms for the youth categories. The dining room went from serving 70 people to serving 210.
And speaking of courts… they already had five, but now one shines with its own light. It is a state-of-the-art hybrid field, twin to the grass of the remodeled Azteca Stadium.
“We have received visits from FIFA personnel who told us that this is the best field in all of Mexico,” commented Daniel García, real estate manager of the project.
The path is already marked. El Tri will begin its concentrations here on May 6 with local players. Their first challenge will be the opening match of the World Cup, on June 11 against South Africa.
With Javier ‘Vasco’ Aguirre at the helm – a man who lived through the ’86 quarters as a player – and these facilities as a base, Mexico not only dreams of equaling its best history. Looking to write a new one.
