A Common Front for the Security of Mexico
Hello, transformative community! Today I want to share with you news that fills you with hope and demonstrates the incredible power of unity and coordinated action. Imagine what can be achieved when an entire nation decides to align its hearts and efforts toward a common goal: protecting its people. That is precisely what is happening in Mexico with the implementation of the General Law to Prevent, Investigate and Punish Extortion. This is not just a rule; It is a declaration of strength, a legal embrace of citizenship that says “you are no longer alone.” President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has highlighted that this instrument, approved in the 32 states, is the cornerstone to reduce and eradicate this crime in a coordinated manner, promoting the National Security Strategy towards new horizons of peace.
And the fruits of working together are already here, let’s celebrate each progress! A historical reduction of 37% in intentional homicides has been achieved. Think about the value of each percentage: they are lives saved, families intact, futures preserved. In addition, vehicle and home robbery with violence has been firmly combated. But the commitment does not stop. The challenge now is to bring that same energy and effectiveness to the frontal combat against extortion. As the President said, the goal is that at the end of next year we can see each other and celebrate a significant decrease in this scourge. That’s the spirit! Turn objectives into tangible results.
A Paradigm Shift: From the Victim to the State
Here comes one of the most transformative parts: before, the heavy burden of extortion depended almost exclusively on citizen complaints. Today, with this new law, the State assumes the responsibility of prosecuting this crime ex officio. It’s a monumental change! The responsibility no longer falls on the shoulders of the victim. Furthermore, tools such as phone records become technological shields to prevent communication, a fundamental right, from being used as a weapon for harassment. This is innovation at the service of protection.
The Secretary of Security, Omar García Harfuch, detailed achievements that inspire confidence: more than 38,700 arrests for high-impact crimes, the seizure of thousands of weapons and tons of drugs, and the dismantling of illegal laboratories. In the specific fight against extortion, more than 600 people have been arrested in 22 entities. Each number represents a space recovered for legality and a clear message to crime.
Coordination is the key to success. The Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, highlighted the coordination of 53 federal agencies and the three levels of government. Programs such as Days of Peace and “Yes to Disarmament, Yes to Peace” are addressing the root causes, building community and voluntarily receiving thousands of weapons. For her part, Attorney General Ernestina Godoy Ramos assumed the commitment to strengthen coordination with a plan of six powerful axes, from intelligence to modernization, to prioritize the crimes that most impact the population.
The consensus was total. With 39 unanimous votes in favor, the National Public Security Council approved crucial agreements. Governors will work to harmonize their local laws with the general law, and a specialized manual will be created for prosecutors’ offices. Governors such as Teresa Jiménez, Manolo Jiménez Salinas and Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla recognized the positive results of this joint strategy in their states. This proves that when there is vision and will, barriers break down and bridges of collaboration are built.
This is the path: unity, clear strategy and decisive action. Each step, from the creation of a law to the arrest of a criminal, weaves the safety net that Mexico deserves. It is a powerful reminder that great challenges are overcome with coordination, perseverance and faith in a better future. The transformation towards a safer society is not a dream, it is a work in progress of which we are all part.
