Mexico and Brazil will collide in a key duel for women’s soccer

The Mexican women's team will face Brazil in a key duel to measure strength towards the 2027 World Cup.

A high-level exam

Athletic director Andrea Rodebaugh has just released the news we were all waiting for. Next March 7, our women’s team will face Brazil at the Ciudad de los Deportes Stadium. It’s not just any game, friends.

It’s the type of test we need. With the ticket to the 2027 World Cup and the Olympic Games on the 28th on the horizon, this duel is much more than a simple friendly. It’s a real thermometer.

“Facing these types of teams is key to measuring ourselves, demanding ourselves and continuing to grow as a team,” said Rodebaugh.

And he is absolutely right. Brazil occupies sixth place in the FIFA Ranking. That figure is not an ornament, it is a warning and a huge opportunity for Pedro López and his players.

The right mindset

The Spanish coach already has a clear focus. There is no fear, there is ambition.

“We will go out on the field to show ourselves as what we are: an emerging country in women’s soccer, with many hopes,” said López.

His energy is contagious. He talks about an “exciting and exciting” match that challenges everyone, from the players to himself on the bench. That’s the spirit.

The preparation does not stop. For June, two more friendlies against high-caliber rivals have already been closed. Every minute on the court counts, every lesson adds up.

This March 7 we will not only see a game. We will see a team that is building something big, brick by brick, against one of the best on the planet. Ready to support?

Scheffler looks to reaffirm his dominance in the Travelers Championship

Scottie Scheffler returns to the Travelers Championship, two years after his victory.

A course that demands birdies

Two days of rain left clear skies at the Travelers Championship, but Scottie Scheffler doesn’t see it as a respite. The world number one, winner of this event in 2022, faces a soft TPC River Highlands prone to producing birdies.

“I really enjoy the tougher tests and sometimes the battle is fun too,” Scheffler said. “I think this golf course is interesting… you have to show up and make birdies.”

Last year, Keegan Bradley rallied on the final hole to beat Tommy Fleetwood to take the title. Fleetwood, who had yet to win on American soil, was devastated after making bogey while Bradley made a birdie. Two months later, Fleetwood redeemed himself by winning the Tour Championship.

“As disappointed and devastated as I was, I felt like I got a lot of support for that,” Fleetwood said.

Rory McIlroy opted out of the Travelers, the third time this year he has skipped a $20 million flagship event. This reflects the new model that the PGA Tour plans for 2028, dividing the circuit into a Championship Series (about 24 events with purses of 20 million) and a Challenger Series for access to the top level.

Scheffler applauds the move to 120-player fields with cutoffs, up from 72 at the current flagship events.

“I think what people want is to see the best players competing together more often. Going back to 120-player fields, making the cut back, I think it’s a good change,” he said.

Scheffler’s record in small fields is notable: eight of his 20 PGA Tour titles have been this way, including the 2024 Match Play. He is the only player to go from winning a major to a signature event in consecutive weeks (Masters and RBC Heritage in 2024). Now, Wyndham Clark, fresh from winning the US Open at Shinnecock Hills, is looking to repeat that feat.
