Measles on the rise: alert for outbreaks in Tabasco and Hidalgo

Measles cases are skyrocketing in Tabasco and Hidalgo, while health authorities launch an urgent call for immunization.

The vaccine that does not arrive and the numbers that do rise

Measles infections do not let up. In Tabasco, official figures paint a worrying picture: at least 34 confirmed cases according to the latest cut from the federal Ministry of Health. The serious thing is not only the number, but the speed.

In just 20 days, the state climbed seven positions in the national ranking of infections. It went from 23rd place to 14th. That is not a trend, it is a curve that is skyrocketing.

“Of the 34 confirmed cases, four correspond to 2025, and 30 have been registered so far this year,” the authorities reported.

Meanwhile, Hidalgo reports seven cases distributed in three municipalities. Three are minors; four, adults. The pattern suggests cracks in the immunization schedule.

A call that sounds like déjà vu

The health authorities have already launched the usual script: an urgent call to get vaccinated. It is especially aimed at those who do not have the complete scheme. The uncomfortable question that floats in the air is: why are there so many without that basic protection in the middle of 2026?

Measles is highly contagious. Its resurgence is not an epidemiological coincidence; It is usually a thermometer of vaccine coverage. Each confirmed case is, in some way, a failure of the system.

The community is nervous, rightly so. Parents and local authorities see how a threat that was thought to be under control is growing. It is urged to be attentive to symptoms and go to health centers.

But beyond the calls, the numbers continue their path. And that path, for now, only goes up.

The Security Cabinet has arrested Colombian citizens linked to the training and manufacturing of improvised explosive devices in Michoacán. This was reported by the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, during the morning conference on Friday, July 3 in Morelia.

These arrests are part of investigations that identified the entry of several people involved into the country, mainly through the Mexico City International Airport and other air entry points. The National Intelligence Center monitored these movements.

The entry of foreign people by land was also detected, who allegedly collaborate in the training of members of criminal groups to install these devices. García Harfuch pointed out that there is an ongoing investigation to locate the leaders of these networks in Michoacán, including alleged high-level members of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel.

The head of the SSPC confirmed the participation of citizens from different countries, mainly from Colombia. We are working in coordination with Colombian authorities to strengthen the investigations. In the coming days, the exact number of people arrested related to the manufacture and use of these explosives will be specified.
