The Hulk of social justice strikes again
Because, of course, who better than a guy who turns green and breaks things to explain to us why the economic system is rotten? Mark Ruffalo, the actor who has played the most adorable monster in the Marvel universe, has decided to change his motion capture suit for a megaphone and point his finger (not the nuclear one, luckily) at the true enemies of the United States: the billionaires. Yes, those beings who sleep in beds with money like Patricio Estrella, but with less charisma.
Migrants are not the problem, but someone needs a scapegoat
While the US government continues to blame migrants for all the country’s ills (from unemployment to bad weather), Ruffalo has recalled with his usual Thor’s hammer subtlety that “the real villains” are those who accumulate wealth as if they were Tolkien’s dragons. “The gift of this moment is that we can see who are making our lives unbearable,” he said, in what could be the script for a superhero movie where the bad guys wear Armani suits instead of capes.
And it doesn’t stop there. The actor, who seems to have exchanged his scripts for revolutionary pamphlets, demands “recovering our country from that extreme wealth.” Translation? If Jeff Bezos continues building rockets to escape from Earth, at least leave the rest of us some oxygen.
Protests, social networks and a pinch of sarcasm
Ruffalo doesn’t just post videos on Instagram with social justice filters. No, he takes to the streets, like in “No Kings”, where he defended the undocumented with the same vigor with which the Hulk crushes the Chitauri. “Immigrants are not criminals,” he declared, in a statement that, unfortunately, still needs to be said. And he added: “If you look at the statistics, most crimes are committed by white people.” Inconvenient figures for those who prefer to blame their neighbors for the color of their skin.
But the real target of his (green) anger is Donald Trump, whom he calls “The Billionaire Upstairs”. Ruffalo does not hesitate to call him a scammer and point out that his family “is profiting from his bitcoin scam.” Come on, if capitalism were a comic, Trump would be the Joker, but without the grace of Heath Ledger.
So now you know: the next time someone tries to convince you that migrants are the problem, remember Ruffalo’s words. Or, better yet, imagine him transforming into the Hulk and crushing the ultra-millionaires’ arguments. Because, in the end, wouldn’t it be cool to see Elon Musk dodge a chair thrown by an angry superhero?
