Not only warming up the seat: the report of a representative that does come into play
It seems that in the Chamber of Deputies there are those who do know the TikTok of effective politics and not just that of nice speeches for the gallery. María Teresa Ealy Díaz, the federal representative of Morena, has just released her First Report on legislative activities and, spoiler alert: it was not the typical boring stuff that makes us long for a good reel of kittens.
In a move that was clearly not made to “fill a chair” (his phrase, not mine), Ealy Díaz stood in front of his audience to tell, with all the attitude of someone who has things clear, that his first year in office was entirely spent in transforming realities. Yes, that word that many repeat but few apply as if it were an Instagram filter.
Actions, not posturing: the battle plan
Their focus was none other than to improve the lives of women, older adults, girls and boys of the Miguel Hidalgo mayor’s office. Basically, he threw himself into creating more just and humane environments, because apparently, in his dictionary, “politics” is synonymous with “being close, knocking on doors and changing things.” A revelation, I know.
In a speech that mixed conviction with some touches of drama worthy of a good soap opera, he dropped gems like: “My conviction is stronger than any attempt at intimidation.” And one here thinking that in Congress they were only intimidated by crossing glances during the sessions.
But where she really put on her shirt was when talking about her own: “As long as there is a woman who is violated and a girl is silenced, legislating for women is a necessity and not a promise to be kept.” That is, no promises, pure delivery. Among its star initiatives are the right of women to decide about their reproductive life – an issue that continues to make conservatives angry – and the promotion of safe and immediate transportation for women and their children in situations of vulnerability due to domestic violence.
Because, let’s be honest, what’s the point of having rights if you can’t even get into a taxi without fear. “Each proposal is not a piece of paper, it is a response. They are not figures, they are lives, stories,” he concluded. Almost, almost to make you cry… or to send the audio on WhatsApp to your friends.
The support squad: family, feminists and even Morena’s bosses
Of course, no political event is complete without its obligatory photo op. Among the dream team that accompanied him were the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Sergio Gutiérrez Luna, and the vice coordinator of the Morena bench, Alfonso Ramírez Cuéllar. Not bad for a first-time deputy, huh.
But what really gave him the main character touch was his gratitude to his family. With a dedication that even moves (a little), he recognized his mother, Mrs. Perla Díaz de Ealy, as his “strength” in every step. And then, in a wink that mixes the personal with the professional, she threw flowers at her father, Juan Francisco Ealy Ortiz: “Dad, since I was a child you taught me that true strength is not presumed, it is demonstrated with acts.”
There you have it: working every day with dedication is not just an empty slogan, but an inheritance in action mode. And although it sounds like a happy ending to a movie, the truth is that in an often hopeless political landscape, seeing someone who at least tries to connect rhetoric with reality is… refreshing. Or at least, a good attempt to change the chip.
