The “Shocker” shines (and catches everything) in the Mexican Pacific League
It seems that Luis Iván Rodríguez has magnets in his glove because he just won the Gold Glove of the Mexican Pacific League. Yes, that trophy that all players fantasize about lifting while practicing base stealing in front of the mirror. The Ocotlán pitcher not only won his third winter title with the Charros de Jalisco, but also received his first Rawlings Gold Glove Award after a 2024-2025 campaign with 100% fielding effectiveness. Translation: 19 opportunities, 0 errors, and 7 outs that left more than one with their mouths open.
“Happy, but not as happy as when you discover free tacos”
In statements to CANCHA, the “Shocker” (nickname that sounds like a Marvel villain but with better coordination) confessed: “I have always liked to catch balls on the field”. Wow, what a surprise. Although let’s face it: his ability to cover bases and field as if the ball had GPS is key for his team. And he started as an infielder, which explains why he pitches and defends as if he had an invisible joystick.
Between injuries (yes, he just had an elbow arthroscopy) and dreams fulfilled (“debut, be a champion and win the Golden Glove”), Rodríguez is now focusing on his rehab, which – according to him – is going “faster than an influencer who regrets a tweet”. His goal: return to the Mexican Baseball League to help his team reach the postseason. Or, as any millennial would say: “#GoalsComplied”.
