A Saturday with movement
The National Seismological Service reported a 4.2 magnitude tremor near San Pedro Pochutla, Oaxaca, this morning. The movement occurred at 9:00 a.m. and, luckily, there were no effects.
But that wasn’t the only one. The land was restless.
A coincidence that makes noise
Hours before, another earthquake of the same magnitude (4.2) was felt in the southwest of Ahome, Sinaloa. And almost at the same time as the one in Oaxaca, in Veracruz one of 4.4 degrees was recorded near Minatitlán.
Three events. Three different states. All with a very similar intensity and in a short period of time.
So far no damage has been reported.
That is the official phrase that is repeated for each case. It’s the good news, of course. Nobody wants tragedies on any Saturday.
But one gets the strange feeling. Simple geological coincidence? Or is the Mexican underground more active than normal? The Seismological gives the cold data: location, magnitude, time.
What it doesn’t say is whether there is any pattern or connection between these closely spaced events. That is left to the experts… and to our collective memory, which knows that sometimes the earth warns before speaking louder.
