Detailed analysis of FIFA’s decision
The FIFA Appeal Commission has denied Club León’s participation in the Club World Cup 2025, based on evidence that contradicts the arguments presented by the team and the Pachuca Group. Although both clubs defended their financial and operational autonomy, the governing body of international football determined that they were engaging in multi-ownership, thus violating the competitive integrity of the tournament.
Key documentation and contradictions
According to a file of 183 points, to which this medium had access, FIFA highlighted that the Pachuca Group sent a communication in June 2024, attempting to clarify the independence of its teams. However, this same document became evidence against them: the letter was signed by a single representative, included the emblems of both clubs and reflected a shared corporate structure. Furthermore, the presentations prior to the process were identical in format and content, which reinforced the suspicion of coordination.
Another relevant finding was the almost identical composition of the boards of directors of both clubs, made up mainly of members of the same family. This, according to FIFA, demonstrates a common decisive influence, incompatible with Article 10.1 of the regulations, which prohibits the simultaneous control of multiple participants.
Legal and sports arguments
The Pachuca Group alleged that the retroactive application of the regulations harmed its teams, already classified after winning the Concachampions. However, FIFA clarified that classification does not guarantee participation, subject to compliance with all regulations. Likewise, he stressed that local regulations do not invalidate their statutes, designed to preserve international equity.
The organization also rejected the accusations of opacity, recalling that there had been multiple requests for information and warnings since October 2024. Finally, it reiterated that both clubs accepted the terms when signing the regulations, without any legal or procedural defects.
