The German Football Federation (DFB) and Jürgen Klopp reached an agreement in principle for the 59-year-old coach to take the reins of the national team. The move occurs after the elimination of Germany in the round of 32 of the World Cup at the hands of Paraguay.
The end of the Nagelsmann era
The early exit from the tournament precipitated the departure of Julian Nagelsmann. Since then, Klopp’s name was ringing loudly. The former Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool coach must still resolve his separation from the Red Bull group, where he works as a consultant.
Negotiations in New York
“The president of the federation, Bernd Neuendorf, and vice president Hans-Joachim Watzke met in New York with Klopp and we managed to agree on the main key points of his eventual contract,” the DFB said.
The federation added: “Negotiations will continue next week, but both parties are confident that they will come to fruition and conclude positively.”
Klopp, with an extensive career in elite clubs, would add his first experience leading a national team. His arrival seeks to recompose the course of the German team after the World Cup blow.
