Juárez and the frustration of a tie that tastes little
Let’s put the cards on the table: the debut in Clausura 2026 for Pumas was like going to the cinema to see a superhero movie and having the power go out just before the end. Lots of action, but the ending leaves you with a face like really?. A 1-1 against Querétaro at home that, according to Efraín Juárez, escaped them due to details.
“Clearly, we are frustrated [because] the truth is the team plays a good game, but, due to some details, such as the issue of individual concentration, we leave with one point instead of three,”
declared the Auriazul coach. I mean, they did almost everything right, but that almost is what hurts. It’s like making a perfect dinner and burning dessert. The feeling is bittersweet.
The plan: make the Olympic a fortress (again)
Juárez was clear in his conference: one of the key objectives of this tournament is to regain strength at home. The University Olympic must once again be that place where rivals fear to step.
“Obviously, at home we have to become strong, we have to be important; that is the main objective of this tournament,”
he stated. And he added that what was not achieved against Querétaro, they will have to look for in the next outing, against Tigres. Basically, the message is: “Team, it’s time to reset and get points because at home things have to change”.
Regarding the boos of the fans at the end of the game, Juárez understood it perfectly. He didn’t come out happy either. He acknowledged that there is little patience – something totally normal in football – but asked for restraint because, at the end of the day, it’s only Matchday 1. The tournament is a marathon, not a sprint.
Regarding the debut of the new reinforcements (four of the five wore new jerseys), the coach was satisfied with what he saw. He recognized their quality, but also made it clear that they need time to adapt to the team’s dynamics. It’s like when you change jobs: the first days are about knowing the codes and where the coffee maker is.
In summary: Pumas missed two points due to lack of concentration, Juárez accepts the frustration but asks for calm, and the objective is clear: to make CU an unbreakable fortress. The path has just begun.
