A video can change everything
The story of that bronze medal on Paris 2024 soil is not over yet. And the Swiss Federal Court has just delivered an unexpected coup.
The judges considered that there are “highly exceptional circumstances” and sent the case back to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The reason? There is a recording that could prove something crucial.
“Considers that there is a probability that the audiovisual recording of the final on August 5, 2024 will lead to a modification of the contested ruling in favor of the applicant (Chiles)”
That quote from the Swiss court says it all. The crux of the matter lies within seconds: whether the United States filed its initial appeal within the regulation minute in the arena.
The medal that traveled to Bucharest
Let’s remember how we got here. Jordan Chiles climbed to that historic podium alongside Simone Biles and Rebeca Andrade, three extraordinary athletes. Days later, Romania appealed, the CAS took away the bronze and gave it to Ana Maria Barbosu.
Now, everything could be reversed. The process will be slow—probably taking more than a year—but hope is alive again.
His legal team does not hide its emotion. Maurice M. Suh, one of his lawyers, was clear:
“We are delighted… there is ‘conclusive’ video evidence that Jordan was the rightful winner”
And he added that Chiles “will fight vigorously” for what he considers his. The American Federation also welcomed the recognition of “the flaws in the initial process”.
While sports justice takes its course, Jordan has moved on. With pure resilience, he handled a harsh online backlash—with regrettable components—and rebuilt his path.
She competed again at UCLA, shone on ‘Dancing With the Stars’, posed for Sports Illustrated and now shares the bill with Serena Williams and Sha’Carri Richardson in an advertising campaign.
His life went on, but that medal is still pending. Now, a video saved in some Olympic archive could write the ending that many believed impossible. The game is not over yet.
