JLo and her masterclass on how to sell a French chef’s dress as haute couture
Ah, Mother’s Day. That date when celebrities rush to demonstrate that, in addition to having photogenic children, they also master the art of Instagram posturing. And who better to give lessons than Jennifer Lopez, who – oh, surprise – reminded us that she is a mother (in case her 12 thousand previous posts were not enough evidence).
The look: gingham checks or “how to make a millionaire’s outfit out of a picnic tablecloth”
From the Dominican Republic (because of course, normal mothers celebrate at home, but JLo needs a beach and palm trees in the background), the singer gave us a masterclass on how to turn a dress that seems stolen from a retro cafe into the star trend of 2025. The secret: call it “gingham” (in English it sounds more chic, obviously) and add a lace trim so it doesn’t get confused with your grandmother’s curtain.
The linen midi dress – because cotton is for commoners – sports a square neckline (to remind us that Botox still works) and thick straps (designed, we suspect, to support the weight of her ego). The color pale pink is no coincidence: it combines perfectly with the aura of “I am an earthly but accessible goddess.”
The most ironic thing? That this design – which on anyone else would look like a milkmaid costume – on JLo becomes “the best bet for the season“. Maybe because when you have a body sculpted by the gods (and possibly a surgeon), even a bag of potatoes would look like couture.
Meanwhile, the rest of us are wondering: will this look work if we don’t have perfect twins to pose with us? Or what if our only exotic location is our mother-in-law’s garden? Existential questions that JLo, in her cloud of fame and filters, will never ask herself.
Moral? If you want to be taken seriously, put lace on your tablecloth. And make sure you have 250 million followers to validate it.
