Jake Paul, the YouTuber who believes he is the new Rocky (but with better marketing)
Ah, Jake Paul. The man who decided that being a YouTube star was not enough and now insists on convincing us that he is a serious boxer. His latest act of self-promotion includes a video where, dressed like a carnival charro (because nothing screams “I’m a professional wrestler” like a wide-brimmed hat), he hits piñatas with the faces of Julio César Chávez Junior and Canelo Álvarez himself. Of course, because what better way to prepare for a fight than by punching pieces of cardboard?
From YouTuber to “boxer”: the most unexpected evolution from chicken to dinosaur
Jake, with his impressive 11-1 record (seven by knockout, because of course, all his rivals were… ahem, handpicked), seems to believe that hitting a piñata with Chavez Junior’s face brings him one step closer to facing Canelo. “Chavez will be my piñata on Saturday and then ‘Canelo’ is next,” he wrote with the confidence of someone who has never received a left hook from a real world champion. But hey, at least the video has good background music (thanks, Featherweight).
And as if hitting piñatas wasn’t enough, Jake also took the opportunity to show off his new ranch in Georgia, valued at more than 30 million dollars. Because obviously, if you’re going to be a “serious” boxer, you need a 14-mile stretch of land with lakes, eagles, and peacocks. To train? No, to upload photos to Instagram, of course.
Meanwhile, the professional boxing world continues to wonder if Jake Paul is a hoax or simply a marketing genius. What is certain is that, between destroyed piñatas and extravagant mansions, at least he is giving us something to laugh about.
