Intensification of fighting
The Israeli army and the armed group Hezbollah escalated clashes in southern Lebanon on Tuesday. The area near the Litani River, strategic for both sides, once again became the epicenter of regional tension.
The actions come days before military delegations from both countries hold direct talks in Washington. Israeli forces launched airstrikes against Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley.
It all happened after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu authorized a more intense offensive against the Iran-backed group.
Attack on Mashghara
Lebanese sources reported that one of the attacks hit the town of Mashghara. At least 12 people died there, including members of the same family.
The bombings left significant material damage to homes and civil infrastructure, according to local reports.
The current standoff is one of the most severe since hostilities resumed in the region. The Litani River represents a key dividing line, and its control has been historically disputed.
Negotiations in Washington seek a ceasefire, although analysts doubt immediate progress. The international community observes the escalation with concern.
