The classic: drugs in the truck
Again. A passenger bus, Culiacán-Phoenix route, and a discovery that no longer surprises anyone. Elements of the Army and the National Guard seized cocaine and opium gum at the ‘Querobabi’ Security Post, north of Hermosillo.
The routine is almost a script. Routine check, ZBV scanner marks a ‘dark density’ under the driver’s area. Physical inspection: a purple suitcase with packages wrapped in brown tape.
What they found (and what they don’t say)
Seven kilos of a white substance with similar characteristics to cocaine. Twenty-five kilos of dark brown resin, with characteristics of opium gum. Some packages had labels with a horse and the word ‘Bronco.’ Picturesque details for a deadly business.
Two people, originally from Culiacán, were arrested. The vehicle is a gray Volvo 2023, from the OMEX VIP line. Luxury on wheels for an illegal shipment.
The detainees, the drugs and the vehicle were placed at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) based in Hermosillo.
There begins another chapter. The National Guard served as ‘first responder’. It sounds technical, almost aseptic, to describe the eternal game of cat and mouse on this route.
The question that remains, as always, is how much does it go undetected? This bus was the one that hit. The news is the guaranteed grammage today. Silence is about the volume that continues its path.
