HBO announces the official cast of the Harry Potter series
After weeks of speculation, HBO has confirmed the names of the first six actors who will be part of the television adaptation of Harry Potter. The production, which will span more than a decade on the Max platform, will feature established and emerging talents to embody the most emblematic characters of the saga.
Confirmed cast details
Among the main actors are John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu in the role of Severus Snape, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall and Nick Frost playing Rubeus Hagrid. Additionally, Luke Thallon and Paul Whitehouse will join as Quirinus Quirrell and Argus Filch, respectively, in recurring roles.
The series will be under the creative direction of Francesca Gardiner (writer and showrunner) and Mark Mylod (executive producer and director), known for his work on Succession. In a statement, the team expressed their excitement: “We are thrilled to have such extraordinary talent bring new life to these beloved characters.”
Reactions and context
The choice of Paapa Essiedu as Snape has generated debate among fans, since the character was described in the books with different physical characteristics. On the other hand, the participation of actors such as Lithgow (recognized for Conclave) and McTeer (winner of Tony and Golden Globe awards) reinforces the prestige of the project.
Max promises a faithful adaptation, with “fantastic details, endearing characters and dramatic settings” that have defined the saga for more than 25 years.
