Hansi Flick renews with Barcelona until 2028 and dreams of 100 points

Hansi Flick renews until 2028 and aims for 100 points in La Liga.

Flick is staying! The German extends his contract with Barça until 2028

Hansi Flick not only lifted the La Liga trophy after beating Real Madrid, but now secures his future on the culé bench. The German coach reached an agreement to extend his relationship until the 2027-2028 season, with the option of one more year if everything goes well. Barça has not yet made it official, but Flick already celebrated it.

“I am very happy and what has been achieved gives me confidence to continue for another year or two,” said Flick. “Many technicians would be happy to stay for three or four years, but I think that at Barça it is better to limit it.”

The goal: break the 100 point barrier

The team has 91 points and still has three games ahead. The first obstacle: Alavés this Wednesday. Flick holds nothing back: he wants to make history.

“Our goal is to achieve 100 points and to achieve this we have to win all three games. We have celebrated the title a lot, but now we can play well,” he stated.

A place that feels like home

Flick arrived in May 2024 to replace Xavi Hernández, after coaching Bayern Munich and the German national team. But something changed after Sunday’s classic, where they beat Madrid 2-0. His father passed away before that game, and the coach made it clear that he does not plan to go elsewhere after his time in Barcelona.

“I have seen that I am in the right place,” he commented.

More than a coach, an example of resilience

Flick knows that in sport, as in life, winning is not enough. It’s about building something solid. And with this renewal, Barça is committed to a long-term project. Discipline, mentality and preparation are not clichés for him: they are the basis of everything. Can the team reach 100 points? The race is on.

Australia advances to round of 32; Paraguay awaits as best third

Australia secures a place in the round of 32 after a goalless draw against Paraguay.

The Australian team sealed its ticket to the round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup. It did so after drawing 0-0 with Paraguay at the San Francisco Bay Stadium, within Group D.

Classification assured

With this result, the Socceroos added four points, enough to secure second place in the sector. The defensive order was enough to neutralize the South American attacks during the 90 minutes.

Paraguay also closed the group stage with four units. However, the tiebreaker criteria relegated him to third place. Now the Guaraní squad will have to wait for the other groups to close to find out if they enter among the eight best third places that advance to the next round.

The tie reflected a close match, where neither team managed to break the zero. Australia fulfilled its objective of qualifying, while Paraguay awaits the remaining results.

United States falls to Türkiye but manages to qualify

Dramatic 3-2 at SoFi Stadium does not prevent the United States from reaching the round of 32.

The United States team lost 3-2 to Türkiye at SoFi Stadium, but secured its ticket to the round of 32. The European team said goodbye to the tournament with a victory in its last match.

Party development

The game started at a slow pace. In the 2nd minute, Auston Trusty took advantage of a corner kick to open the scoring. Türkiye reacted quickly: in the 10th minute, Arda Güler, from Real Madrid, equalized after a defensive oversight.

The United States tried to regain the lead, but a goal disallowed for offside in the 29th minute baffled them. Türkiye capitalized: in the 32nd minute, Orkun Kökçü turned the score around (2-1). With that result the first half ended, amid complaints from the Los Angeles fans.

In the second half, Sebastián Berhalter equalized in the 48th minute to make it 2-2. The US coach sent Alejandro Zendejas to the field to look for greater offensive depth, but an injury to Trusty in the 90th minute threw the defense out of balance. In stoppage time, Kaan Ayhan scored the final 3-2.

Implications

The defeat raises doubts about the team’s performance heading into the next phase, although qualification is already assured.
