The Mexican National Team is fine-tuning details for its second match in the 2026 World Cup. El Tricolor will face South Korea on Thursday, June 18 at the Guadalajara Stadium. With a victory, Javier Aguirre’s team would practically secure first place in Group A.
The changes that Vasco is preparing
For the duel against the South Koreans, Aguirre plans three modifications compared to the opening game against South Africa. The most striking change is in the offense: Raúl Jiménez would leave the starting eleven and Guillermo Martínez would enter in his place.
The ‘Memote’ talked about what this opportunity means.
“I feel happy, but, above all, prepared. Every day is grateful for the fact of being here, how far God has put me, these are unimaginable scenarios when you start with all this, you see it as an unattainable dream, [but] thank God it could happen; I am enjoying it every day of the concentration, it has been worth it, it continues to be worth it and I will make it worth it.”
In an interview for TUDN, the Pumas footballer acknowledged that the opening of the World Cup was a unique experience.
“The truth is that I can sum it up by saying that it has been one of the best days of my life because everything that came to mind at that moment was since I debuted in the First Division and it was not easy to get there.”
Martínez also referred to his role on the team and made it clear that his priority is to add.
“My only objective is to contribute to what Javier [Aguirre] needs on the field of play, whether it’s five or ten [minutes] or I have to wait on the bench, I’m welcome. I feel calm, I don’t get obsessed with something because that would lead me to be uneasy and I want to enjoy it.”
With these statements, the forward appears ready to assume responsibility in the tricolor attack against South Korea.
