The sixth edition of The Evening of the Year, Ibai Llanos’ boxing and digital entertainment event, had a moment that marked the night: the tribute to the Argentine streamer Gaspi, who died on July 14 in a helicopter accident in Brazil.
Before more than 70 thousand people at the La Cartuja Stadium in Seville and millions online, Ibai stopped the show to remember his friend. “He was a wonderful person with impressive talent,” said the Spaniard. Gaspi’s family came to the ring and the audience chanted his name. His mother, Michelle, did not hold back her tears.
Among applause, Michelle took one of her son’s phrases: “Give and don’t get given.” He adapted it: “It is better to give and have them give you all this love that you give.” The gloves that Gaspi used in the fifth edition were also placed on the commentary table, when he lost to Perxitaa by technical knockout in the first round, but received a standing ovation.
A video was projected on the screens with his most memorable moments: street interviews, comedy videos and his participation in The Evening of the Year V, where he surprised by losing 20 kilos before the fight. His dedication and discipline remained a testimony.
Gaspi, whose real name was Gaspar Prim Díaz, was 23 years old. He became one of the most popular YouTubers in Argentina for his irreverent and spontaneous style. The accident occurred near Rio de Janeiro and also claimed the lives of singer Oliver Tree, 32, and filmmakers Lucas Vignale and Lucas Brito Chaves. For many attendees, the tribute was the most significant moment of the night, remembering the legacy of a creator who marked an entire generation.
