Fortnite gives away Stormtrooper skin in special Star Wars event

Epic Games and Disney join forces to offer an exclusive gift to players, merging two iconic universes.

Fortnite and Star Wars: A strategic collaboration with free rewards

The popular battle royale developed by Epic Games, Fortnite, has launched a special initiative in collaboration with Disney to celebrate “May the 4th”, an emblematic date for Star Wars fans. As part of this alliance, players can obtain the First Order Stormtrooper skin for free, a highly requested skin that returns to the game as part of the new galactic season.

Promotion details and requirements to obtain the skin

This promotion, available until August 31, 2025, does not require in-game purchases or completing complex challenges. The steps to claim the skin are simple:

RelatedFortnite integrates The Squid Game into its third season
  1. Login to your Epic Games account from its official platform.
  2. Go to the “Applications and accounts” section.
  3. Link the account with the MyDisney service (creating one if you do not previously have one).

Once this process is completed, the skin will automatically unlock in the player’s locker. This move reinforces the integration between Epic and Disney’s digital ecosystems, suggesting larger future collaborations.

Historical context and relevance of the skin

The First Order Stormtrooper skin made its initial debut in Fortnite in 2019, during the first formal collaboration between Epic Games and Disney. Since then, it has reappeared sporadically in the in-game store, but this is the first time it has been offered at no cost. This decision is part of a broader strategy to promote the “Galactic Battle”, code name for Season 3 of Chapter 6, which officially began on May 2.

Additional content and expansion of the Star Wars universe in Fortnite

In addition to the free skin, the new season introduces a themed battle pass with iconic characters such as General Grievous, Andor and a variant of Evie with Jedi or Sith customization options. Also included is a LEGO style version of the Stormtrooper, integrated into the LEGO Fortnite mode, which has gained popularity for its creative approach.

Players will be able to explore locations inspired by Star Wars planets, use weapons such as lightsabers and blasters, and participate in themed missions. This event represents one of Epic Games’ most ambitious efforts in 2025, combining nostalgia, free content, and an immersive experience to keep its community engaged.

Strategic impact analysis

This collaboration not only benefits players with exclusive content, but also strengthens the relationship between two giants of digital entertainment. By offering free rewards, Epic Games encourages mass participation while Disney expands the presence of its franchise in the video game market. According to internal data, similar events have increased player retention by 30% during the first few months.

The success of this initiative could lay the foundation for future integrations, including possible appearances by other characters from the saga or even narrative expansions within the Fortnite universe.

Satellite Internet, the bet to close the digital divide in Mexico

Mexican geography limits fiber deployment, but low orbit satellites are emerging as an alternative.

Satellite internet as a solution to the digital divide in Mexico

Mountains, jungles and deserts make Mexico one of the countries with the most complex orography in Latin America. Bringing fiber optics to isolated communities implies an investment that is difficult to recover with few users. As a result, one in five households still lack internet access or receive poor service.

Faced with this scenario, low orbit (LEO) satellite internet is emerging as a strategic alternative. “Deploying physical infrastructure in Mexico is expensive due to geography. In many cases, satellite internet represents the most viable option to connect areas where fiber will not reach in the short term,” explains Ernesto Piedras, director of The CIU. Companies like Starlink, with more than 10,300 active satellites, already operate in the country. Since May 2021, it obtained a concession and closed 2024 with 160,631 subscriptions, making Mexico its second Latin American market, only behind Brazil. Starlink has signed contracts with CFE Telecomunicaciones for up to 1,556 million pesos to connect remote communities.

However, cost remains a barrier. While a fiber optic plan costs an average of 544 pesos per month, satellite internet starts at 899 pesos, plus equipment and installation. “Commercially it is still not as viable because it is still more expensive and requires purchasing an antenna whose price remains high,” says Fernando Esquivel, from The CIU. The service makes economic sense when it is shared between communities or companies, and with the support of public policies.

Experts agree that this technology will not replace fiber optics, but will complement it. “Terrestrial services are faster and have lower latency. Satellite communication reaches areas that fixed internet would not reach,” says Hugo Simg, from MediaTek. Deployment also requires regulation and coordination between governments and companies. The race to connect Mexico is no longer only being fought underground, but from space, where a new generation of satellites promises to reduce the digital divide that keeps millions out of the digital world.
