A call to action against the growth of autism
Attention, world! The US Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has issued a transformative alert: cases of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in children are growing at a rate that requires immediate action. But here’s the good news: this challenge is an opportunity to come together, research, and create solutions. Are you ready to be part of the change?
Data that drives us to act
The latest reports from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reveal that 1 in every 31 children in the United States receives a diagnosis of autism, a significant increase since 2020! Kennedy describes it with passion: “These children are our most valuable resource, and they deserve to live without barriers.” Although ASD is not a disease, but rather a diverse neurological condition, its impact on families and society calls us to delve deeper into its causes.
Science has already identified multiple factors, from genetic to environmental, such as paternal age or exposure to certain chemicals. But there is hope: the federal government is redoubling its efforts with grants for universities and independent researchers. As Kennedy said: “We will follow the science, without fear of where it takes us.” This is the spirit that builds the future!
Did you know that diagnoses are more common in boys than girls, especially in Asian, Native American, and African-American communities? The CDC analyzed records of children under 8 years old, the key age for detecting ASD. Although some attribute the increase to greater medical awareness, Kennedy insists: “We can’t normalize these numbers.”
