The Bundesliga is getting interesting
What a final match at the Volkswagen Arena! Borussia Dortmund does not give up. Serhou Guirassy appeared in the 87th minute to give his team three points against Wolfsburg (2-1).
That goal is pure gold. It brings Dortmund just three points behind the leader, Bayern Munich. The pressure now falls completely on the Bavarians.
“That’s part of football,” coach Niko Kovac said. “But then deciding it with an action is also a quality.”
Kovac is right. Wolfsburg dominated much of the second half, but missed their chances. Dortmund withstood the downpour and knew how to suffer to win the prize.
Other results that mark the day
While Dortmund pushes, other contenders stumble. Bayer Leverkusen, who had been unstoppable, could only draw 1-1 against Borussia Mönchengladbach. A hard blow for their European aspirations.
In Freiburg, the new stage at Werder Bremen began with another defeat (1-0). Daniel Thioune made his debut on the bench on the wrong foot and the team has already gone 11 games without winning.
Things went somewhat better for St. Pauli, who beat Stuttgart 2-1 to move a little further away from the direct relegation spots. Every point counts in that lower area of the table.
And attention to Mainz. With a double from Nadiem Amiri from eleven meters, they beat Augsburg 2-0 and added their third victory in a row. What a streak!
The ball is now in Bayern’s court. They play this Sunday against an in-form Hoffenheim. If they fail, the party in Dortmund will be even bigger.
