When the “good people” carry rifles and the Army plays cat and mouse
Ah, Sinaloa, land of mariachis, paradisiacal beaches and… oh, wait! It turns out that today the menu includes gun chases between the Army, the National Guard and some armed civilians who, clearly, confused Independence Day with the premiere of “Fast and Furious: Poster Edition.”
In the picturesque towns of La Constancia and San Lázaro (municipality of El Fuerte, because geographical irony demands it), the authorities received the typical warning: “Shots, sir, many shots!“. A wedding? A birthday? No, just another normal day in post-apocalyptic Mexico where patrols chase people who, apparently, believe that Call of Duty is a life manual.
The Jeep Rubicón: consolation prize for the operation
Amid all the chaos, the Army and the GN managed to “secure” an abandoned Jeep Rubicón. Bingo! Inside there were automatic weapons and magazines, because what better place to keep them than in a car that screams “look at me, I’m a narco.” Of course, not one detainee. Did the shootings evaporate? Did they use Star Trek style teleportation? The mystery continues…
Meanwhile, in La Constancia (an ironic name if there ever was one), the federal forces deployed an operation worthy of a movie. Bullets flying, screams, adrenaline… and in the end, zero captures. Are we sure it wasn’t poorly coordinated training? Because the script seems written by someone who watched many soap operas.
The only thing that is clear is that, in this magical Mexico, the detonations are the background soundtrack and the weapons are the favorite toys of certain “civilians.” Of course, the authorities do not confirm deaths or injuries. Is it because they didn’t find them or because they got used to counting bullets instead of people?
Moral? If you visit Sinaloa, bring sunscreen, an umbrella and, just in case, a bulletproof vest. You never know when the National Guard and the friends of other people will decide to turn the landscape into an improvised shooting range.
