A tragedy that shakes Teocaltiche
The silence of the night at the Teocaltiche Community Hospital was broken by the echo of gunshots that marked a before and after in the life of this municipality. Cecilia Ruvalcaba Mercado, a woman who dedicated her existence to the care of others, was brutally taken away while she was carrying out her noble work as chief nurse. Four armed shadows burst into the sanctuary of health, turning its hallways into a scene of terror. Two bullets sealed the fate of this fighter, mother of three children and councilor of the Citizen Movement, whose crime remains unanswered.
A wave of blood that does not stop
The soil of Teocaltiche seems to drink the blood of its public servants. Since February, eight murders and five disappearances have left this land in mourning. Governor Pablo Lemus swore to pacify the region in 45 days, but the clock ticks relentlessly: two more deaths are added to the macabre count. First the general secretary of the City Council, José Luis Pereida Robles, fell; Now, Cecilia. Who will be next?
The authorities insist that the victim did not receive threats, but the facts scream otherwise. Was his political activism the sentence? In 2024, this graduate in nursing and midwifery challenged power as a municipal candidate. Today, his chair on the Human Development and Family Commission lies empty, while the ISSSTE and the state government mourn his loss.
The Director of Public Security, Ramón Grande Moncada, was also silenced. Five more police officers lie in early graves, while four colleagues and a driver remain in the shadows of disappearance. The streets of Teocaltiche, once full of life, now murmur between whispers of fear.
“She was brave,” Lemus declared with a broken voice, promising justice. But the words are carried away by the wind, while the bullets continue to speak. Three levels of government say they are coordinated, but citizens demand results. How many more lives will this silent war cost?
