Wixárika deputy from Morena seriously injured after head-on collision
Legislator Irma Reza de la Cruz, Wixárika indigenous representative for Morena, was seriously injured in a road accident this Monday. The incident occurred on federal highway 70 Poniente, near the community of Colomos in Calvillo.
According to the first records, the deputy was traveling in a pickup truck that collided head-on with a torton-type truck. Other people who were in the same vehicle were also affected.
Reza receives medical attention at the Miguel Hidalgo Hospital in Aguascalientes. His condition remains serious while medical teams work on his recovery.
Official statements and what they don’t say
The State Congress issued a statement expressing “solidarity, support and sincere recovery” for its fellow legislator. The official text states:
“From this Legislative Branch, we express our human and institutional support to her and her family at this time, fully trusting in their strength and prompt recovery.”
The statement adds that they are waiting for official medical information and asks to “dismiss any type of comments or speculation coming from unofficial sources.” They guarantee Reza’s rights as a legislator during her recovery process.
What the statement does not mention: the causes of the accident, whether there was negligence on the part of a driver, or the exact condition of the other people involved. There are also no details about the conditions of the road or if there were previous risk reports on that stretch.
Representative Irma Reza is an important voice for indigenous communities in the local Congress. His accident occurs at a time when Wixárika representation continues to be a minority in decision-making spaces.
Meanwhile, his fellow lawmakers are waiting for news from the hospital. And we continue to wonder: when will we have full answers, not just carefully worded statements?
