Colombia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo meet tonight in the third match of the World Cup being played in Guadalajara. The World Cup is approaching its end in La Perla Tapatia.
Both teams arrive with the obligation to add three. With only one round left, a defeat could seriously complicate their aspirations of advancing to the round of 16.
The duel between Cafeteros and Leopardos will be attractive, but also tense. The result of the previous match between Portugal and Uzbekistan will already be known, but neither can be trusted.
Lorenzo: “You have to keep a calm head”
Colombia’s technical director, Néstor Lorenzo, considers it key not to put pressure on the three points. The Argentine strategist stated:
“Tension doesn’t help you, that desperation to go looking for a result makes you make mistakes, you have to keep a calm head. We have already played against teams like Congo and we have to respect our playing identity.”
Regarding his rival, who snatched victory from Portugal last day, Lorenzo acknowledged his difficulty:
“I think that today any team plays well, proposes and can manage a good match. We have seen that the African teams have grown a lot, they have players who compete in the European elite; Congo is a very strong team.”
The coach also confirmed that his squad is recovered after the trips. “All [my players] are fine and are available to contribute at all times. We hope that we go step by step until the last days of the World Cup, but this is very even, there is a lot of technical quality, here are the best players in the world,” he expressed.
Colombia seeks to transcend in the tournament. The match against Congo will be a test of their ability to maintain their style without falling into despair.
