An unexpected rival comes to the rescue
Ah, football. That sport where sworn enemies suddenly become your best friends… or at least your only defenders. Christian Giménez, former figure of Cruz Azul (yes, you read that right, Cruz Azul!), has decided that today is a good day to play the knight errant and come out in defense of America. Reason? The Eagles are playing as well as a grandpa team on a Sunday, and someone had to say something. Of course, what better than a former player from their greatest rival to give them a hug of “cheer up, champion.”
America, or how to turn greatness into mediocrity
The Apertura 2025 does not look good for America. They lost the chance to be four-time champions (thanks, Toluca), and now in the Leagues Cup they seem determined to demonstrate that a draw against Real Salt Lake is an achievement worthy of celebration. Penalties? Ah yes, that moment when fate decides to laugh at them a little more. Meanwhile, André Jardine, their coach, must be wondering if it wouldn’t have been better to stay in Brazil.
But do not fear, American fans, because Christian “Chaco” Giménez, that man who once made your life impossible in the Young Classic, has arrived like a guardian angel with microphone in hand. In Fox Sports, the former midfielder assured that América will shine again because, well, “it is América”. Argument? They have quality and a coach. Wow, what a revelation. Don’t all first division teams have that? But of course, when a former Cruz Azul player says it, it sounds almost prophetic.
“The drop in performance is normal,” Giménez added, as if losing against MLS teams was comparable to a passing cold. Normal? In a club that boasts of being the largest in Mexico? What a nice euphemism for not saying “they are playing horribly.”
What now, America?
After their North American adventure (and not exactly triumphant), the Águilas will return to Mexico to face Querétaro. An accessible rival, some say. But considering the moment, even a game against the office team could be a danger. Of course, if Giménez says it, it must be true: America will resurface. Or at least that’s what his millions of fans hope, who are already tired of seeing how their team sinks faster than the new year’s promises.
Moral? Sometimes, even your rivals take pity on you. Or maybe Giménez just wanted to generate controversy so that they continue to invite him to TV. Who knows. The truth is that America needs more than nice words to get out of this hole.
