From the dance floor to the set: Cazzu gets serious
Julieta Emilia Cazzuchelli, or simply Cazzu to all of us, is about to take an unexpected turn. After conquering urban music and even publishing a book, he is now launching into acting. And he doesn’t do it halfway: he stars in Laughter and the Wind Cabin, a film that already has awards under its belt.
The curious thing is that this is not a celebrity’s whim. It turns out that before being the queen of perreo, Cazzu studied film in Tucumán and then Multimedia Design in Buenos Aires. It already had the technical base.
A premiere with a Netflix seal (and a lot of noise)
The film, a Netflix original production, hits Argentine cinemas on April 16. For the rest of the world, we will have to wait a little longer to see it on the platform.
But be careful: this is not just any debut feature. The film has already made its way through festivals and won important awards:
Best Film and Best Direction at the Mar del Plata International Festival.
Audience Award at the French Film Festival Festival.
Behind the camera are Pablo Minces and Juan Cabral (script and direction), with production by Flora Fernández Marengo. And the cast is a luxury: Diego Peretti, Joaquín Furriel, Graciela Borges… and in the middle, Cazzu.
The plot: magical realism at the end of the world
Here’s the pitch: Risa is a ten-year-old girl who lives in a remote area of Ushuaia with her mother, Sara. During the holidays, her mother leaves her in the care of a neighbor who… well, is going through a difficult time.
In this semi-hostile context, Risa finds an abandoned telephone booth. And he discovers something incredible: from there he can listen to people who are no longer there. Voices from beyond that ask for help. In exchange, they offer her the only thing she wants: to be able to talk to her father, who died in a fire.
The detail that no one saw coming
With Cazzu in the cast, we would all think of a soundtrack full of urban beats. Well no. Here comes the surprise:
The soundtrack is by Babasónico.
Yes, you read that right. One of the most iconic bands of Argentine rock providing music to this fantastic trip to the south of the south.
So get ready. This is not a cameo or a special appearance. It’s Cazzu diving headfirst into an ambitious, award-winning film project. Will it work? In April we will know.
