The file that disappeared
The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) has just closed the investigation against La Luz del Mundo. No charges. Without clear explanations. Years of investigations into alleged sexual abuse and financial crimes disappeared in a bureaucratic procedure.
Ironically, the leader Naasón Joaquín García does face convictions and new trials in the United States. Here, nothing.
What doesn’t add up
The Mexican authorities carried out operations, collected testimonies and even collaborated with the gringos. But in the end, the case did not reach a judge. Because?
“It is a blow to trust in the institutions,” denounces Sochil Martin, one of the victims who now feels revictimized.
The FGR attempted to gather evidence with covert methods and witness tracking. Many lines of investigation were left unfinished or simply did not lead anywhere.
The shadow of influence
Here’s the gist: The Light of the World has tentacles at all levels of government. Members in public office, political ties… a network that has always generated suspicions about its ability to dodge justice.
It’s not the first time. There is a historical record of similar complaints against their leaders that never prospered. Institutional memory seems to have selective holes.
Meanwhile, north of the border, US authorities are moving forward with multiple proceedings against Naasón Joaquín. Convictions for sexual abuse, new accusations for organized crime and trafficking… there is movement there.
Here only official silence remains and the bitter taste of a justice that, once again, seems to have two speeds: one for the powerful, well-connected and another for everyone else.
