A historic twist in the heart of Mexico City
As if the fate of the metropolis hung in the balance, Clara Brugada, the head of Government, unleashed a wave of hope by announcing the creation of a circular economy park in the once infamous Bordo Poniente. This place, which for decades was the symbol of environmental abandonment, will rise like a phoenix of sustainability, transforming waste into opportunities and urban scars into a green legacy.
The rebirth of a polluting giant
With the solemnity of someone who knows he is writing history, Brugada declared: “We will recycle 50% of the city’s waste, a titanic feat that will mark a before and after.” Among the star projects are a compost plant for organic waste, hydrothermal carbonization technology developed by UNAM, and a revolutionary tire recycler. Every detail, meticulously planned, like pieces of an ecological chess where nothing is left to chance.
But the ambition does not end there. The plan includes the transformation of gravel into sidewalks, a poetic nod to circularity that turns rubble into paths to the future. From the emblematic “La Cima” cycle station in Topilejo, the president outlined an environmental decalogue that promises to revolutionize the city: from the expansion of green areas to the rehabilitation of 35 kilometers of rivers and more than 600 hectares of ravines.
40 million trees: the great green battle
In a move that would make the gods of mythology tremble, Brugada unveiled a colossal reforestation plan: 40 million trees planted in every corner of the capital. It is not just about numbers, but about a plant army that will combat pollution and give breath back to a suffocated city. “It’s everyone’s mission,” he exclaimed, while announcing the census of urban trees and the salvation of sick trees, like doctors on an ecological battlefield.
And as if destiny demanded more, the 10 thousand “green apples” emerged, urban oases where gray streets would become corridors of life. “They will be living legacies,” Brugada promised, as he imagined flowering walls and orchards sprouting from the asphalt. Every word, an oath; each project, a chapter in an epic that could save the city from its own shadow.
Will this be the beginning of an unprecedented environmental revolution? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: Bordo Poniente will no longer be remembered as a landfill, but as the place where Mexico City decided to change its destiny.
