Preparation for the US Open
Brooks Koepka said that having practiced nine holes on Tuesday is a positive sign that his left hand will be ready for the US Open. “I don’t think I would have gone out to play if I wasn’t,” he said.
The 36-year-old golfer withdrew from the Canadian Open on Sunday, raising questions about his participation at Shinnecock Hills, site of his second consecutive US Open title in 2018.
Koepka explained that the injury affects the ulnar nerve, causing tingling in the pinky and ring fingers, similar to the “funny bone” sensation. He ruled out neck problems, which limited him in 2021, since the studies came back clean.
“I can do everything. Literally, it’s just that my ring finger and my pinky were like—in the transition on the way down—it felt like they were going to come off the golf club, but in reality they were just very weak,” he explained.
Koepka, a five-time major champion who returned to the PGA Tour from LIV Golf this year, practiced with no signs of discomfort alongside Graeme McDowell on the back nine.
