A day that should be a celebration turns into a tragedy
This morning, in the midst of the joy over the closing of the school year at the Luis Donaldo Colosio High School in Ciudad Constitución, the sound of detonations changed everything. What began as an event full of balloons, flowers and smiles ended with parents, students and teachers lying on the ground, seeking protection. Life can change in an instant, and today, that community experienced it firsthand.
The events that shocked Comondú
The streets of the Salomón Sández neighborhood were tinged with terror when a homicide occurred a few meters from the educational campus. Images shared on social networks show heartbreaking scenes: older adults hugging the ground, frightened children among white chairs, and balloons with congratulatory messages floating above the chaos. “Don’t get up, everyone on the ground” was heard from the microphone, a stark reminder of the fragility of peace.
The PGJE confirmed the presence of a corpse with gunshot wounds on Bachiller and Isla Coronado streets, while experts were working to gather evidence. Although the authorities have not identified the victim, the shadow of violence already darkens this agricultural region, historically affected by confrontations between criminal groups.
The voice of a wounded community
“We couldn’t even enjoy the closing anymore,” lamented Amairany Mireles, a mother present at the event. His words resonate in hundreds of comments on social networks, where parents express their indignation and fear. Jeyssy Trejo, another witness, shared: “I don’t wish them to be in a situation like this, especially with our children.” Education, a fundamental right, was tainted by a reality that no one should experience.
What’s next for Comondú?
This incident occurs just days after Governor Víctor Castro Cosío announced a state of “calm” and the deployment of 1,500 elements to reinforce security. However, the community questions: is it enough? The special operation implemented weeks ago, with drug seizures and arrests, did not prevent this tragedy. The question remains floating, like those graduation balloons abandoned on the ground.
Today, more than ever, is the time to unite as a society to demand safe environments. Education cannot flourish where fear takes root.
