Direct Attack against the Judiciary in Acapulco
The Criminal Execution Judge of the Superior Court of Justice of the State of Guerrero (TSJG), Isis Peralta Salvador, was the victim of an assault with a firearm during the morning of this Wednesday in the port of Acapulco. The event, which occurred at approximately 7:00 a.m. in the Costa Azul subdivision, a few meters from the emblematic Costera Miguel Alemán, involved two individuals who, aboard a motorcycle, fired multiple shots at the judicial official’s vehicle.
According to the initial official report, the magistrate was injured by firearm projectiles. However, in an act of resilience, he managed to get out of his truck to immediately request help. A crucial piece of information that partially mitigates the seriousness of the event is that the judge was accompanied by her son, who, fortunately, was physically unharmed after the violent episode.
Aftermath of the Attack and Context of the Victim
The automotive unit, which was parked at the site, had at least seven bullet holes after the attack. Two of these impacts were precisely located on the driver’s side windshield, compelling evidence that Judge Peralta Salvador was the main and defined target of the attack. After receiving first aid at the scene, the official was promptly transferred to a private hospital in the town, where her health status was reported as stable after the medical evaluation.
Isis Peralta Salvador currently serves as a Criminal Procedure Judge in the Judicial District of Tabares, based in Acapulco. His public profile has been linked to notable political figures, including the senator of the Republic Félix Salgado Macedonio, father of the current governor of the state, Evelyn Salgado Pineda.
The judge’s career has been marked by controversy. In 2022, the then Undersecretary of Federal Public Security, Ricardo Mejía Berdeja, publicly accused her of procedurally delaying a search warrant for five homes located in the municipalities of Iguala, Arcelia and San Miguel Totolapan. These properties were allegedly linked to the operations of brothers Jhonny and José Alfredo Hurtado Olascoaga, identified by authorities as alleged leaders of the criminal organization known as La Familia Michoacana.
This alleged procedural delay occurred just three months before the San Miguel Totolapan massacre, where, according to official investigations, by direct orders of the Hurtado brothers, 22 people were executed, including the then mayor Conrado Mendoza Almeda, a member of the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD).
This violent episode against Judge Peralta Salvador is not an isolated event within the security landscape for justice providers in Guerrero. In a worrying precedent, in December 2024, the magistrate and former president of the TSJG, Edmundo Román Pinzón, was shot to death in Acapulco as he left his offices, which sets up an alarming pattern of violence directed against the state Judiciary.
This attack represents a direct challenge to the rule of law and highlights the extreme vulnerability faced by public judicial servants in regions with a high incidence of crime. Aggression not only seeks to harm an individual, but also sends a message of intimidation to the entire justice administration structure, eroding citizen security and the administration of justice.
