Deadly attack against senior police commander in central area
A group of hitmen ambushed and murdered Commander Cristóbal David “N”, alias “Nitro”, of the Sinaloa State Preventive Police, in an attack carried out on Pedro Infante Boulevard in Culiacán. The attack occurred in front of government facilities, including the Ministry of Public Education, which demonstrates the audacity of the attackers. The victim was traveling in a Volkswagen Tiguan vehicle with his wife, Gabriela Elizabeth “N”, who was seriously injured and was urgently hospitalized.
Context of growing violence against security forces
This crime brings to 29 the number of police officers murdered in Sinaloa during 2025, according to official records. Just ten days earlier, another member of the same corporation, agent Demetrio Santiago “N”, was executed under similar circumstances. The attacks reflect a pattern of narco violence directed against police commanders in the region, despite joint deployments with federal forces.
Witnesses reported that the attackers, still unidentified, acted with military precision and fled before the arrival of reinforcements. Although a fence operation was implemented with the participation of the National Guard and the Mexican Army, those responsible evaded capture. Authorities are analyzing surveillance cameras in the area to identify the perpetrators.
Strategic implications and operational challenges
Security experts point out that this modus operandi – attacks in urban areas with high symbolic value – seeks to destabilize the institutional presence and generate terror. The choice of Pedro Infante Boulevard, a main thoroughfare with constant traffic, suggests meticulous planning to guarantee impunity.
Among the priority lines of research are:
- Possible connection with settling scores between rival cartels
- Retaliation for recent operations against criminal cells
- Infiltration of sensitive information within corporations
The state government announced to reinforce protection protocols for active agents, including rotating escort schemes and intelligent monitoring of routines. However, analysts warn that without comprehensive strategies against criminal financing, the results will be limited.
