Be careful with streaming ‘gifts’ on networks
The need makes many look for alternatives to access streaming platforms without paying for all the subscriptions. Cybercriminals know this and are setting up an almost perfect trap on TikTok.
The Cyber Police of Mexico City has just launched a strong alert. Videos promising to activate paid software for free are circulating massively. The bait is tempting, but the price is your banking information.
“Recently, services that are advertised on TikTok are causing a stir, since it is a new type of data theft,” warned the SSC.
This is how the scam works step by step
The tutorials guide you to disable your phone’s security. You follow instructions, copy strange codes… and within seconds, attackers have full access. Not only to your social networks, but to your bank accounts.
The strategy is sinisterly effective. They use fake profiles and manipulated comments to give the appearance of legitimacy. It looks like a real hack, but it’s theft disguised as help.
Three basic rules to avoid falling:
- Forget about ‘activators’ or unofficial versions. Download only from authorized sites.
- Never copy and paste unknown commands from social videos.
- Automatically distrust ‘free’ in this context.
Keep your antivirus updated and periodically review access to your accounts. A frequent backup of your information is also key. In the digital world, curiosity for free content can cost you much more than a monthly subscription.
