The Secretary of the Government of Oaxaca, Jesús Romero López, reported on the arrest of 116 people in Juchitán de Zaragoza. The action is part of the “Peace Plan” and the “Sable” operation, implemented after recent episodes of violence.
Among those detained are – he noted – alleged members of criminal groups, drug distributors and aggressors linked to extortion. The authorities also seized 49 vehicles, some armored; 14 short weapons, six long ones and a spell weapon; in addition to 142 cartridges and 172 magazines.
“Many drug distributors have been arrested in Juchitán and 1,861 doses of crystal, the main drug circulating in the municipality, have been seized from them,” Romero explained.
The seizure includes 1,861 doses of crystal, 66 of cocaine and 179 of marijuana. They also seized 864,440 pesos in cash, cell phones, banners with messages and scales. The official added that the phones have provided intelligence to continue investigations.
Results after the comprehensive strategy
Romero López stated that since the implementation of the Peace Plan and Operation Sable —coordinated by the Attorney General’s Office of Oaxaca and the Secretary of the Navy— only two homicides have been recorded in the municipality of the Istmo de Tehuantepec.
The strategy included the deployment of security forces to regain territorial control, along with social programs in employment, education, health and transportation reorganization. “More than 19 institutions participate with 40 actions in the territory,” he explained.
“The results we see today are the product of a comprehensive strategy. Territorial control has been strengthened through coordinated operations with a force of 249 elements, 34 patrols, 30 motorcycles and two Kodiac-type trucks,” concluded the secretary.
